This summer I got to partner with Youth Arts Collective, Peggy Alonas (of Peninsula Potters and Monterey Peninsula College), and the Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula to make 80-something custom, hand-lettered plates for the annual Culinary Classique D'Elegance - an extraordinary dinner experience that benefits Meals on Wheels. The plates were thank-you gifts for the many chefs, designers, and sponsors who donated their time and money to make the event possible. There’s an awesome article about the Meals on Wheels website here (on page 12), and another on the Youth Arts Collective website here. But I would like to give a shout-out to Peggy Alonas – who let us use her kiln and helped us fire (and fire, and refire, and fire some more). Her generosity was life-saving, especially when a kiln disaster destroyed almost 50 plates just a week and a half before the deadline. Without her help, I wouldn't have been able to pull it all off.

most of these would end up broken...
but we still finished everything in time! Thanks again to Peggy Alonas, Marcia Perry and Meg Biddle (of Youth Arts Collective), Christine Capen-Frederick and Viveca Lohr (of Meals on Wheels).
